Your Thursday Three Things for April 24, 2025
The World Isn’t Out to Get You… But It’s Not Always Looking Out for You Either
Your Thursday Three Things Brought to you by me, Jon Macaskill, and my brother in mindfulness, Will Schneider — together, we are Men Talking Mindfulness.
Most people don’t walk around in fear.
BUT, they DO walk around unaware.
Not because they’re careless. Not because they’re lazy. But because modern life has made it easy to disconnect.
You get in your car. You drive to your destination. You scroll your phone at stoplights. You eat lunch in the same places. Sit at the same desk. Walk the same paths.
Familiarity starts to feel like safety. But they’re not the same thing.
We’re not saying the world is dangerous and out to get you. But we are saying… it’s not always looking out for you.
That’s why presence matters. That’s why real awareness is more than mindfulness on a meditation cushion … it’s mindfulness in motion. In traffic. In airports. In the hallway outside your kid’s classroom. At 1AM in a hotel parking lot.
This week on the podcast, we had someone who knows that truth better than most: Clint Emerson … a former Navy SEAL, bestselling author, and expert in personal safety, situational awareness, and what he calls “Everyday Espionage.”
Clint has written books like The Right Kind of Crazy and Escape the Wolf, and he’s trained everyone from executives and government leaders to regular folks like you and me … because safety isn't just for operators. It’s for parents. Teachers. Travelers. Anyone who wants to live life confidently and intentionally, not fearfully.
His approach isn’t about fear-mongering or turning you into a prepper. It’s about being just aware enough… to be free.
We talked about some high-stakes situations, yes. But we also talked about simple things:
How your energy shifts the moment you stop staring at your phone in public
How most of us couldn’t describe the layout of a place we’ve visited every day for years
And how mindfulness isn’t just breathing calmly … it’s noticing the world around you, and being calm enough to respond when it matters

Your Three Things
If this resonates, here are three things to help you sharpen your senses and move through life with more calm confidence:
1. Read 📗 Escape the Wolf by Clint Emerson A must-read for travelers, leaders, or anyone who wants practical tools to stay safe and situationally aware in today’s world. This book breaks it down in everyday language, without turning you into a paranoid lunatic.
2. Practice 🧘♂️ Join our live virtual meditation course that starts THIS Sunday, April 27. Training your nervous system isn’t optional in today’s world. This course helps you build the kind of calm that keeps you present … not panicked. 👉 mentalkingmindfulness.com/learnmeditation
3. Try 🧭 The next time you enter a new space, pause for just 10 seconds. Notice the exits. Clock the vibe of the room. Feel the floor under your feet. It’s not about fear … it’s about presence. And presence is where power lives.
Thanks for being here.
The world isn’t safe or dangerous. It just is. The more grounded you are, the more clearly you can see it and the more wisely you can move through it.
Until next time…
– Jon (and Will)
