Your Thursday Three Things for April 18, 2024
Three more things that reside at the intersection of wellness and leadership!
Hello everyone!
Jon Macaskill here… first off… let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room… today isn’t April 18th! For some reason, I forgot to hit “publish” on this last week so, here we are… guess I should be more “MINDFUL!” :) And yes, I apologize, you’ll get TWO messages today - please don’t hate me!
Ok, so here we are - bringing you another edition of our favorite weekly tradition where we explore the dynamic crossroads of wellness and leadership. As a mindful leader, I constantly scout for tools and ideas that not only inspire growth but also nurture our well-being. This week, I've discovered some gems that I'm eager to share with you. Before we dive into them, here's a quick thought: "In leadership, as in life, balance isn't something you find, it's something you create." Let's create some balance together!
1. Wellness Widget: Zero – Fasting Tracker
For those of you intrigued by the health benefits of intermittent fasting and looking for a way to integrate it into a busy lifestyle, the Zero app might be your perfect companion. This intuitive app helps you track fasting windows and monitor your progress over time, supporting various fasting methods from circadian rhythm to custom plans. What makes Zero stand out is its ease of use and its focus on aligning your fasting regimen with your lifestyle, making it a fantastic tool for leaders looking to manage their health alongside their hectic schedules. Try incorporating this into your routine to potentially boost your mental clarity and energy levels, essential assets for any effective leader.
2. Book Beacon: "Dare to Lead" by Brené Brown
Brené Brown has long been a guiding light on vulnerability, courage, and leadership. In "Dare to Lead," Brown delves into the heart of daring leadership, where the key to success isn't about status or control but about the ability to empower, connect, and inspire. This book is packed with actionable strategies to help you become a more empathetic and influential leader, making it indispensable for anyone who aims to lead with integrity and resilience. Brown's work is a powerful reminder that the soft skills often drive the hardest results.
3. Podcast Power: The Science of Happiness
Produced by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, "The Science of Happiness" podcast offers more than just insights—it provides science-backed practices that can enhance your leadership skills by boosting your personal well-being. Each episode explores a different happiness practice tested by real people, followed by an expert discussion on why it works. This podcast is a tool for leaders who seek to foster a positive work environment and culture by first understanding and implementing the principles of happiness and well-being within themselves.
And before we close, let's not forget why we pursue wellness and leadership: to lead lives rich with purpose and to guide others to do the same! Effective leadership starts with self-care, and what better way to care for ourselves than by nurturing our bodies and minds with the best practices available?
That's all for this week! Keep leading, keep thriving, and remember to take a moment to breathe and center yourself amidst the business and busyness of your lives.
Until next Thursday, train hard and breathe easy!
