Establishing Your Presence (Your Thursday Three Things for October 10, 2024)
Three things that reside at the intersection of wellness and leadership!
Hey everyone,
Jon Macaskill here, back with your weekly dose of wellness and leadership tips. This week, we’re talking about establishing your presence and owning your team(or owning the room!). It’s all about stepping up, seeing past the horizon, and leading in ways that push boundaries—even if it means trying new things and facing a few failures along the way. Because here’s the truth: if you’re not taking risks, you’re not really leading!
Why Presence and Ownership Matter
As a leader, your presence is more than just showing up physically—it’s about showing up mentally and emotionally for your team. When you own your role and your team, you’re not just managing the day-to-day; you’re setting a vision and taking responsibility for the results, good or bad. True leadership isn’t about playing it safe; it’s about leading with initiative and being bold enough to try new things, even if you risk failure.
Here’s why this approach matters:
Leaders See Past the Horizon: Great leaders aren’t just focused on the present moment. They’re constantly looking ahead, thinking about what’s coming next and how their team can be prepared. By trying new ideas, you’re pushing your team to evolve, adapt, and stay ahead of the curve.
Taking Risks Builds Resilience: When you take calculated risks, you’re showing your team that it’s okay to step out of their comfort zones. Sometimes those risks pay off big, and sometimes they don’t—but either way, they build resilience and a willingness to keep trying new things.
You Set the Example: Your team will follow your lead. If you’re willing to step up, fail forward, try new things, and take ownership of the outcomes, your team will feel empowered to do the same. Leadership is about fostering a culture where innovation is encouraged and mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn.
