Welcome to the latest edition of our Frogman Mindfulness newsletter/blog! In this issue, I want to talk about the buzzword… resilience!
Resilience is not a gift bestowed upon the lucky – it’s a skill, honed and developed over time. We all were born with a certain level of resilience. If you’re reading this, you are a living testament to that fact. Each challenge you’ve faced in your life, you’ve overcome, and that shows your resilience.
Yet, like any muscle in the body, resilience can be built up or it can atrophy. It is our job to make sure we are consistently flexing this resilience muscle, especially during the calm periods so we’re ready when the storms hit. How do we do that? Mindfulness.
Being present, being aware, and accepting the reality of the moment can boost our resilience. It allows us to observe the situation objectively, understand our role in it, and focus on actionable solutions. It helps us stay balanced during tumultuous times and reinforces our ability to bounce back.
In my own journeys, as a Navy SEAL, as a husband, as a father, as an entrepreneur, and just as a human being, I’ve found a unique blend of mindfulness and resilience working together. Just last week, while dealing with a particularly challenging situation, I found myself instinctively tapping into my well of resilience, fueled by my mindfulness practice. It reminded me of the silent strength we all possess and how mindfulness helps in accessing it.
